Iran’s Paykan pummels Myanmar in Asian volleyball opener
The powerful Paykan took the first step firmly, winning 25-17, 25-10, 25-20.
Eleven teams have been drawn into two groups for the preliminary round, which started on May 21 and will run through May 25.
Iran, China, Thailand, Myamar, and Bahrain are competing in Group A while teams from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Taiwan, Japan, Indonesia, and host Vietnam were drawn into Group B.
The top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals to vie for the top three placers on May 27 and the others will compete in playoffs for the placing on the same day.
The finals will be held on May 28.
Pakistan hosted the 2005 event in June. Rahat-CSKA from Kazakhstan won the gold medal while Saipa from Iran finished second and China's Shanghai Oriental Club took the third title.
